We recently caught up with the up and coming Mississauga band Asleep in the Machine.

For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 140 characters:

Asleep in The Machine’s sound can be described as a modern take on 90’s alternative rock. The grunge/rock scene had a huge influence on us growing up.

Ten years from now you will be….

In ten years from now our band will have toured all over North America, hopefully parts of Europe….or maybe not. The one thing I’m sure of though is we will always be moving forward, always writing, and always trying to make a new fan.

If you could go open up for any artist on tour right now who would it be?

I think opening up for Foo Fighters would be pretty crazy. They’re live performance is incredible, very tight.

What is your Mississauga connection?

Growing up in Mississauga is our biggest connection to the city. Our friends, family and fan base all stem from this beautiful city.

So, what’s your favourite thing to do when you aren’t doing your music?

Aside from music, I know Dan and Trevor are big fans of video games. We like playing poker here and there too. I (Nick) enjoy binge watching seasons of tv shows.

What’s your favourite place in Mississauga to perform and why?

Our favorite place to perform in Mississauga would have to be in Port Credit, busking right outside Snug Harbour. There’s no better feeling than playing outside on a warm summer night, watching as people gather around to see you play.

Where do you draw inspiration from when you write your lyrics and what’s your favourite part about the process?

Inspiration for our lyrics almost always comes from the music itself first, usually the guitar. From there a tone is set and a “feeling” is ignited. Phrasing is very important to us too. We love making words rhythmical.

Who are your favourite musicians? Why?

Right now one of our favorite bands is “Mother Mother”. They have such a unique sound and the back up harmonies are always flawless.

What are the five things you can’t live without?

Instruments, Internet, Our friends, Sushi, Breaking Bad

What’s the coolest gig you ever did? Why?

The coolest gig I think we played was at the Rad Brothers in Milton. The place was filled with drunken people who have never heard us before, just loving our sound. We were animals on stage.

Quick facts:

What high school did you go to?
Trevor, Da-Rell and I went to Erindale Secondary School and Dan went to Cawthra

Favourite food?
