This week, Gordon Krantz celebrated his 40th anniversary as Mayor for the Town of Milton; making him the longest-serving Mayor in a major municipality in Canada’s history.

Krantz, who served as town councillor from 1965 to 1980, was elected mayor in the Municipal Elections of 1980.

In a heartfelt video, posted to MPP Parm Gill’s Facebook page, various politicians, including Premier Doug Ford, made appearances to congratulate Krantz on his milestone.

“Hello, Mayor Krantz. I heard you’re celebrating 40 years as Mayor of Milton. You’re the longest-serving mayor in Ontario and Canada right now, which is just an incredible achievement,” said Ford in the video.

“Congratulations, my friend. You’ve done a terrific job representing the people of Milton and we’re thankful for your leadership over the last four decades and especially during these past few months.”

In a series of tweets, the Town of Milton commemorated the milestone with fun facts and trivia questions about Krantz’s life, family and past.

Krantz has been re-elected for a total of 21 terms; eight as councillor and 13 as mayor, making him the longest-serving mayor after surpassing now retired, Hazel McCallion, who served as Mississauga’s mayor for 36 years.
