A second major theft of copper wire from a hydro lot happened in Milton last weekend.

This time, more than $5,000 worth of copper wire was stolen from Hydro One construction yard. This follows a theft of about $10,000 worth of copper wire from a Burlington Hydro substation during the same time period.

The Milton theft happened at some point between 4 p.m., on Thursday, July 14, and 5 a.m., Monday, July 18, at 1800 Main St., E. Police said someone stole the wire and dragged it through an adjoining field.

It is unclear how the suspect was able to enter the secured yard.

“I can’t speculate as to whether or not this is a new crime trend although it is unusual to have two similar incidents in a short time-span,” said Halton police spokesperson Const. Steve Elms.

“As always, we would encourage anyone with information, or anyone who witnesses suspicious activity to contact us so that we can investigate.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Halton police at 905-825-4747.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or at the website.
