Recently, Dec. 11, the Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington celebrated the completion of its redevelopment.

The redevelopment included a new seven-storey patient tower with 172 in-patient beds, a new emergency department, two new operating rooms, 36 additional surgical beds, 10 additional critical care beds, expanded diagnostic imaging services such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs, a new and expanded cancer clinic, expanded outpatient care programs, a new post-anesthetic care unit, and a renovated neo-natal intensive care unit.

Premier Doug Ford, along with Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, and Monte McNaughton, Minister of Infrastructure, were at Joseph Brant Hospital today to celebrate the completion and grand opening of its newly expanded facility.

“We are delivering on our promise to end hallway health care as we celebrate the grand opening of Joseph Brant Hospital’s redevelopment project,” Ford said in a recent press release.

“This is another important step toward making sure everyone in Ontario has access to the high-quality care they expect and deserve.”

In a recent press release, Elliott commented on the impact the redevelopment will have on the hospital overall.

“The newly renovated and expanded spaces at Joseph Brant Hospital will reduce wait times and give patients and families faster access to quality care in a modern setting,” Elliott said in a recent press release.

In order to fund the redevelopment, just over $65 million was raised by the Burlington community. This money was raised through the ‘Our New Era Campaign’.

Ontario is investing an additional $90 million in 2018 and 2019 to build 1,100 beds and spaces in hospitals and the community. This will include more than 640 new beds and spaces in order to prepare for flu season.

The province is also investing over $300 million to support the addition of 6,000 new long-term care beds.

At Joseph Brant Hospital last year there were over 43,000 emergency department visits and more than 13,000 inpatient admissions.

With these numbers, it is clear that the recent redevelopment was definitely needed.
