Milton residents can help change the town’s transit plan in order for it to be more accessible to everyone.

Here’s how.

The Town of Milton has provided a draft for the 2019 Milton Transit Accessibility Plan which highlights the accessibility barriers that have been removed over the past year and how the town plans to continue to comply with the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) in 2019.

A few of town’s plans for 2019 that are outlined in this draft include: continuing to improve infrastructure at bus stops and other related transit infrastructure, installing bus pads and shelters at various locations, finalizing the roll-out of Milton Transit branding on new bus stop signs, ensuring sign visibility and legibility, implementing service improvements to maintain service reliability, improving coverage, etc., implementing new, dedicated specialized transit service delivery model to accommodate growth and enhanced customer service, purchasing specialized transit vehicles, updating service policies, developing new communication publications, launching a new service delivery system, and developing and implementing a process to manage static map information at all bus shelter locations.

Other plans include reviewing opportunities for travel training to support service integration of specialized and conventional transit services, implementing an online public engagement tool for future Transit Accessibility Plan initiatives, developing a Transit Service Review and Master Plan Update to enhance services and forecast future transit developments, and developing an Alternative Service Delivery (ASD) Strategy for implementation in 2020.

Before the town presents the final draft of the 2019 Transit Accessibility Plan to council on Dec. 17, 2018, the town is collecting public feedback and consultation.
