Halton’s Medical Officer of Health issues added safety measures for restaurants and food establishments

The province of Ontario recently announced adjustments to dining capacity limits at restaurants and other food establishments including those in Halton Region.

Halton is currently in the Red/Control level of the province’s COVID-19 framework and the recent changes made by the province include allowing up to 50 per cent capacity of the indoor dining area to a maximum of 50 patrons, as long as physical distancing requirements are met.

Additionally, Dr. Meghani, Halton Region’s Medical Officer of Health, has issued instructions to owners, operators and other persons responsible for restaurants, bars, food trucks, concession stands and other indoor and outdoor food or drink establishments as an added measure to protect the community.

These instructions will take effect on March 23, 2021, at 12:01 a.m. and are being issued as more cases of COVID-19 in Halton are being seen including variants of concern.

The new instructions include being screened prior to dining in a food establishment and providing information for contact tracing.
