Following the lead of governments, both large and small, around the world, the Town of Halton Hills has banned the TikTok application from all Town devices.

Chris Mills, the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer, sent an email to all Town employees that TikTok is to be removed from all Town devices effective immediately.

TikTok is popular social media app that allows users to post short videos.

Originating in China, there are fears about security and whether the app might collect information from devices on which it’s installed.

That’s why many governments have either banned the app or are seriously considering it.

In his email, Mills said he was following the precedent of the federal government, which has already banned it. The province, and many other municipalities, are looking into it as well.
