A sting operation by police has led to charges against a person who allegedly tried to sell goods obtained fraudulently.

According to Halton Regional Police, early last month a person purchased an electric vehicle worth $7,000 from SmartWheel Canada in Burlington.

After the vehicle was picked up, police say it was determined that a stolen credit card was used to pay for it.

Later, it was discovered that the scooter was for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

Then, on March 1, a Halton Police officer, posing as a buyer for the scooter, set up a meeting with the seller at an Etobicoke location where an arrested was made.

Along with an electric vehicle, police also recovered what they believe to be a stolen baby stroller.

Kelvin Akasukpe, a 31-year-old from Brantford, has since been charged with trafficking in property obtained by crime, possession of property obtained by crime, fraudulent use of a credit card, and fraud over $5,000.

The person charged has been since released and will appear in court at a later date.
