Mississauga GO train riders will benefit from service improvements to the Milton Line that will take effect in early April.

Starting April 10, more trips will be added to the busy Milton GO train route during morning and afternoon rush periods. The Milton Line stops at a number of Mississauga GO stations on daily trips to and from Toronto.

The added trips will give passengers more travel options, say officials with Metrolinx, the provincial agency that operates GO.

In the morning, one extra trip will leave Milton GO station at 6:59 a.m., making all stops in between en route to an 8:03 a.m. arrival at Union Station in Toronto.

During afternoons/evenings, an additional trip will depart Union Station at 6:25 p.m. and arrive in Milton at 7:27 p.m.

Also, the 6:44 a.m. train from Milton will leave 15 minutes earlier starting April 10, the new departure time set for 6:29 a.m.

And the 5:10 p.m. train from Union Station will now leave Toronto at 4:55 p.m.

Additionally, some off-peak rail service will temporarily shift to bus service on a number of lines including Lakeshore West that affects riders in Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington and Hamilton.

That temporary change takes effect on April 8.

“It’s being done to allow more down time along the tracks for important project construction and overall maintenance work on the tracks,” Metrolinx officials say.

Meanwhile, a plan to expand the Milton GO line to all-day, two-way service that would benefit tens of thousands of Mississauga residents and workers is still in the works, but is moving slowly.

The federal government says it’s ready to fund 50 per cent of the estimated $1-billion project, but the Ontario government has yet to make the same commitment.
