Burlington residents may have to wait until 2022 for public events

While COVID-19 put a damper on most of 2020, it’s possible that the ongoing pandemic will continue to result in many virtual events this year.

In an interview with inhalton.com’s Khaled Iwamura, Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward discussed the many factors that come into play when it comes to in-person events. These include the fact that many regions remain in lockdown as well as the general vaccine rollout in Ontario.

Additionally, Meed Ward also pointed out that most of Burlington’s larger events could take up to a year to plan.

“Nobody can say what the spring is going to look like,” said Meed Ward.

“I know that many of our event organizers are just skipping this year,” she said, adding that many community organizers will continue to do virtual events in 2021.

“We are hearing from many of those independent groups that they are not planning in-person events until 2022,” concluded Meed Ward.

An update on when Halton Region will be moving out of lockdown and into the province’s colour-coded framework is expected on Friday, Feb. 12.
