This year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the provincial Stay-at-Home order, the City of Burlington will be hosting a virtual fireworks experience for Victoria Day.

Residents who are interested in taking part in the augmented reality (AR) experience, may do so via the snapd HUB app where they’ll be able to join their neighbours across the province for the event.

Through the app, participants will be able to share photos of themselves at home, which may be featured in the fireworks pre-show.

The virtual event will take place on Monday, May 18 at 8:00 p.m. For more information on how to view the virtual fireworks, click here.

Additionally, while actual fireworks are permitted on Victoria Day and the three days prior to the holiday, the Burlington Fire Department is discouraging them due to the potential fire hazard as well as concerns around social gatherings.

Residents are reminded that fireworks must be used in accordance with the City’s bylaw that regulates the sale and use of fireworks.

Fireworks are to be discharged on private property only. Setting off fireworks on highways, streets and on public property such as city parks or schoolyards is not permitted. Additionally, none should be discharged in buildings, doorways, automobiles or other places where they could create a danger or nuisance to any person or property.

No person under the age of 18 is allowed to set off any fireworks.

Any questions regarding fireworks may be directed to the Burlington Fire Department by email at [email protected].
