The Burlington Food Bank has reopened for in-person client visits.

Located at 1A-1254 Plains Rd. E., food pickup can be done Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, and Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Closed for in-person shopping for the past two years during the pandemic, the food bank reopening is done with an even greater urgency than in the past as the need for its services has increased.

The latest hunger report released by the agency signaled a 20 per cent increase for food assistance in Burlington, a number that could go even higher as more fallout of the pandemic becomes apparent.

During the pandemic, those at the food bank delivered items directly to clients, but having the in-person shopping option available once again allows for specific food selections that can best fit the dietary needs of those who use the service.

The shelves continually need to be restocked at the Burlington Food Bank and donations are always welcomed.

Right now, here are the top food items required:

  • Cereal (hot and cold)
  • Large Soup
  • Juice
  • Granola bars (nut free)
  • Peanut butter
  • Crackers
  • Canned fruit
  • Canned tomatoes
  • Canned vegetables
  • Baked beans
