Burlington councillor Rory Nisan was been elected for a fourth term to the board of directors of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

FCM is the national voice of local government and helps advocate for municipalities to ensure their needs are reflected in federal policies.

“I’m pleased to congratulate Councillor Nisan on his fourth term on the FCM Board of Directors, where he can continue the important work of advocating for our community and the interests of municipalities across Ontario and Canada,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr.

“At FCM, Rory has helped raise key issues facing municipalities with federal partners, such as housing affordability, the need for immediate access to reliable broadband internet, COVID response and recovery support, as well as funding for the child care sector. I know he will continue his great work on behalf of Halton Region over the next year.”

Nisan has advanced municipal priorities through FCM since 2019 including funding for frontline services during the COVID-19 pandemic, investments in affordable and assisted housing, delivering growth-related infrastructure and supporting municipal climate change mitigation and adaptation.

“I’m honoured to be re-elected to the FCM Board of Directors this year,” said Nisan. “We have accomplished a lot, but there is still much to be done. I am excited to continue advocating for our shared municipal priorities and want to thank my colleagues for their support.”

In addition to his role at FCM, Nisan has several other positions in his role as regional councillor, including chair for the Standing Committee on International Relations, which allows him to contribute to the global programs and initiatives that FCM supports in a number of countries across the globe.

He is a member of the Standing Committee on Anti-Racism and Equity, the Standing Committee on Community Safety and Crime Prevention and the Standing Committee on Environmental Issues. He is also an active member of the Rural Forum.
