Have you been in the mood for an exceptional sandwich and haven’t been quite sure where to go to get it?

Since there is no shortage of selection in the GTA, the choice as to where to dine can be a tough one—especially when places that serve delicious sandwiches are plentiful across cities.

When it comes to a great sandwich, every ingredient counts. Is the bread soft with a delightfully flaky crust? Is the filling satisfying and flavourful? Are the spreads or sauces on point?

Both Mississauga and Burlington are known for their respective food scenes and both offer a ton of commendable sandwich joints—but only one city can have the absolute best hotspots.

What places were competing?

Mississauga

Top 5 Sandwiches in Mississauga

When you want a sandwich, you don’t have to drive far to get one in Mississauga. Some great hotspots for a great sandwich? The hidden BBQ gem that is Holy Smokez BBQ Sandwiches, the classic, family-owned and eternally popular California Sandwiches, the homey and welcoming Pizzeria Dei Sassi in the Dixie and Eglinton area, the iconic and near-legendary Peter’s on Eglinton (you don’t want to miss the Montreal smoked meat) and our number one pick, the homegrown (and growing) On a Bun. While On a Bun hit number one on our list, Mississauga has not shortage of incredible sandwich joints.

Burlington

When it comes to great sandwiches, Burlington has got you covered. Some places you don’t want to miss? The long-running, independent cafe Lakeshore Coffee House, the tiny vegan and gluten-free hotspot that’s aptly named Lettuce Love Cafe, the beloved bagel mecca that is JC’s Hot Bagels (hurry if you can, as it’s always selling out fast), the fun, laidback and elaborately decorated The Coop Wicked Chicken and our number one pick, Toronto export Barque. While Barque is our number one, Burlington has a lot to offer sandwich lovers.
