Thieves continue to target Burlington cars and trucks, data shows

Data compiled by Halton Regional Police shows that the bad guys continue to ply their trade by breaking into cars and stealing them as well.

According to information obtained through Halton’s crime map, in the past seven days, 10 vehicles have been stolen and 18 have been broken into and had contents stolen. The thefts have taken place across Burlington with no particular area targeted.

Since the beginning of this year, 74 vehicles have been stolen in the city and 95 have been broken into.

Across Halton Region, there have been 38 vehicles stolen this past week, and 36 vehicle break-ins occurred.

Year-to-date figures for Halton Region show that more vehicles have been stolen than ones that have been broken into.

So far in 2023, 280 vehicles have been stolen in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills while 196 auto break-ins have been reported.

While any car is at risk for being stolen, Équité Association, an agency that monitors auto theft, has released a list of the top vehicles that are most stolen in Ontario.
